Jamaica

Introduction

Jamaica is located in the middle of the Caribbean Sea and is very different from the rest of the islands.  The history and culture of this beautiful destination set it apart from the rest of the Caribbean but it is still home to the same fantastic weather, white sand beaches and luxury accommodations.  There are world class reefs for diving and snorkling especially in Ocho Rios and Runaway Bay.  Take a trip off the beaten track to discover manatees, crocodiles, breathtaking waterfalls and hidden away fishing villages.  Jamaica is a mixture of African, Asian, European and Middle Eastern cultures and this is reflected in their distinctive cuisine.

Getting to and Travelling around

Fly from most major UK airports into Jamaica\'s Kingston Airport when you will connect with a pre-booked transfer to your chosen hotel.  Car-hire is also available to rent throughout your stay and this may be collected at the airport on your arrival.  There are a number of ways to get around once you have arrived at your destination, hire a scooter or a bicycle and explore the island at your leisure.  If you would rather leave the driving to somebody else make use of a taxi or local bus but please make sure that they are approved by the Jamaican Union of Travellers Association (JUTA) as this will ensure that they are operation under specific safety regulations.  Taxis in Jamaica are metered however it is possible to negotiate a rate with the driver who will then also offer the service of a tour guide.  The bus service is not very reliable and does not run to a set schedule.  There are many attractions and excursions on offer and we are happy to pre-book these for you before you depart the UK.

Best Time and Weather

Jamaica is warm all year round and the climate is fantastic.  During the winter months the average temperature is 25°C reaching 28°C in the summer.  In the mountain regions it does become quite cool in the evenings so you will need to take appropriate clothing.  Brief rain showers are frequent in the northeast however the sun does reappear immediately.  Jamaica has two rainy periods, during May and from August to October although it does remain warm.  The winter season is hot and sunny and does stay warm at night.
